WordPress 4.8 is slated for release this week and includes a number of updates for the Customizer and WordPress widgets. Many of these add features that impact general usability of widgets in a big way. 🎉
Notable updates include
- TinyMCE arrives in the Text Widget
- Added Media Widget
- Added Image Widget
- Added Video Widget
- Added Audio Widget
Other enhancements
- Customizer controls panel width increases for larger screen sizes
- Added a visual indicator for hidden widget areas
- Customizer buttons are now “natural-width”
- Customizer: Add indicator when additional widget areas are hidden
