Me: _sigh_ gotta fire up Trac and review details on that ticket.

My mother: you’re using a Chrome search hack for that right?

Me: o.O

My mother: _sigh_ here, let me show you…

Stop wasting time finding the correct URL for that WordPress Trac ticket, your teams’ JIRA instance, or any other ticketing system you regularly use. Use the following Chrome search hack to quickly navigate to the Trac ticket you’re looking for by typing trac 16808 into Chrome.

  1. Go to chrome://settings/searchEngines
  2. Scroll to the end of the “Other search engines” section and input the following:
    1. Add a new search engine: WordPress Trac
    2. Keyword: trac
    3. URL with %s in place of query: https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/%s
  3. Click the “Done” button.

Now simple type trac 16808 into Chrome and you’ll instantly navigate to https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/16808. To use this Chrome search hack for other sites (e.g., JIRA), replace the details in steps 2.1 – 2.3 above.

  1. Another URL for Google feeling lucky. Which I find useful when I just want to go to the first link of google search page.

    http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=%s
